When do I have to give notice on an auto-renewing contract?
Count the notice period backwards from the renewal date. A contract that renews on 2 March with a 60-day notice period must be cancelled by 1 January, not by 2 March. Two details decide it: the renewal date is usually the end of the current term rather than the anniversary of signing, and notice periods are almost always calendar days rather than business days unless the contract says otherwise. Miss the window by one day and you owe another full term.

The three mistakes that cost people a year
First, counting from the end of the term when the contract defines renewal differently. Second, assuming business days: 60 days almost always means 60 calendar days, which is two weeks shorter than you would hope. Third, diarising the renewal date itself, which is the one date on which it is already too late to act.
Where the dates actually live
In the text, which is why this goes wrong. The effective date is in the recitals, the term is in a numbered clause, the notice period is in termination, and the renewal behaviour is in a sentence beginning "unless either party". Nobody reads four sections of a signed PDF eighteen months after signing it, which is exactly when it matters.
